President starts second term paying tribute to Bangabandhu, martyrs

1480a-201804250612DHAKA – President M Abdul Hamid today started his second term by paying rich tributes to the memories of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and freedom fighters, who made supreme sacrifice during the Liberation War in 1971, reports BSS.

The President placed a wreath at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the capital this afternoon.

Placing the wreath, he stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of profound respect to memories of Bangabandhu, the greatest Bangalee of thousand years.

Upon his arrival on Bangabandhu Memorial Museum premises, the President was received by Mayor of Dhaka south Sayeed Khokon and Museum Curator Md Nazrul Islam Khan.

Earlier, President Hamid placed a wreath at the National Martyrs Memorial in Savar as a mark of rich tribute to the memories of the martyrs.

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from three services gave a guard of honour to the President on the memorial premises.

Abdul Hamid also signed there a visitors’ book, where he respectfully recalled the contribution of the Liberation War heroes and other concerned faced martyrdom for the sake of the dearest homeland.

The President was accompanied by chiefs of three services, local lawmaker, Liberation War Affairs Ministry secretary and secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban at about 3:05 pm. He was flown to Savar by a helicopter.

Earlier, a contingent of President Guard Regiment (PGR) gave the re- elected President a guard of honour at the Credential Field inside the President’s Palace as a state ceremony for the newly elected head of the state.

Later, he exchanged views with the Bangabhaban officials, staffs and employees.

Veteran politician and parliamentarian Md Abdul Hamid took oath as the 21th President of the country last evening, the 77-day after the Election Commission declared him the new head of state as he was the lone candidate for the highest office.
