BNP itself does not want Tarique’s return to country: Quader

NARAYANGANJ : Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said BNP itself now does not want that party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman returns to the country.
Referring to BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain’s recent remarks that AL government cannot bring back Tarique by any means, Quader said the remark stated that BNP does not want their acting chairman’s return to home.
The minister was addressing a public rally organized by Araihazar upazila AL in Gopindi area with its president Shahjalal Miah in the chair.
Earlier, the minister visited Bhulta-Araihazar-Bancharampur-Nabinagar road development works.
Quader said BNP is in crisis now as BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia is imprisoned in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman had gone abroad in the name of receiving treatment after giving undertaking that he would not do politics.
But now BNP is saying that Tarique, who was awarded imprisonment in different cases, has taken political asylum in London, he added.
The AL general secretary said those who cannot take to streets to wage movement cannot be the leader on the soil of Bangla.
Quader said BNP did not get public support that is why the party leaders are now making complaints to foreigners against the government.
He said Awami League believes in power of people and the party is always voted to power through people’s mandate.
The AL general secretary urged the party men to work for the welfare of masses to ensure victory in the next general polls.
“If you do not behave well with people, our all development activities will go in vain. Please do not show power with people. Otherwise, people’s representative will have to pay for it,” he urged party men.
Quader also asked party men not to give spaces to opportunists in the party as such elements will have no trace in crisis period.
The AL general secretary said those who will have acceptance to people will get AL ticket to vie in the next general polls and all leaders and workers will have to work unitedly for those who will get nomination from the party.
Narayanganj-2 seat lawmaker Nazrul Islam Babu, upazila AL general secretary Advocate Abdur Rashid Bhuiyan, district AL organizing secretary Sundor Ali Miah, AL leader Miah Md Alauddin, thana AL vice-presidents Khorshed Alam and Benujir Ahmed, joint secretary Sirajul Islam Bhuiyan, organizing secretary Mahbubur Rahman Roman, Araihazar municipality mayor Habibur Rahman and Gopaldi municipality mayor MA Halim Sikder, among others, were present on the occasion.
